Pony effect Personal Cheeks Review + swatches

Pony effect personal cheeks review and swatchesBlushes haven’t been a category I’d jump into the K-beauty realm for due to it’s reputation with the lack of pigmentation. ย If you have been used to Western blushes, it is hard to understand when you’d hear in the East, they prefer more sheer formulations. ย I had the privilege to try out Pony Effect’s line of single blushes in hopes of expanding my expertise of Korean blushes. ย With not much luck with the blush included in the Contour master palette, I’m hoping to see a better formulation with these single blushes. ย Let’s get started with the review~ย

How to use:
“Gently swirl in with a blush brush. Tap off excess and apply along your cheekbones.”

Pony effect personal cheeks blushProduct packaging:
Packaging for this blush is sleek and straight forward. ย This single panned blush comes with a magnetic closure as well as a clear window to see which shade is which.

Pony effect personal cheeks reviewIn the back, there is the label with the shade name in both Korean and English along with the usual information.

Color/ Pigmentation:
I was honestly hoping these blushes would be a completely separate formulation from the contouring master paletteย Pony came out with in the previous collection of products. ย Unfortunately, this is not the case. ย Back when I reviewed the contouring palette, the two contouring and highlight were really nice but the blush was lacking in every way, shape and form. ย It wasn’t pigmented enough, it was slightly too powder and it just doesn’t show up on the skin. ย Swatching on the back of my fingers along with some base make up residue, the color seems to show up fine. ย However, the times I have tried to work with these blushes with a brush, it does not work at all. ย I ended up just giving up and going back to an old favourite. ย I was planning to do swatches on my cheeks, but these really don’t show up so it’s really no point. ย Do keep in mind, my skintone is Mac NC25 and it barely shows up. ย So for those of you who are deeper in skintone, forget about it. Pony effect blushCall you mine: Warm undertoned Peachy pink shade (matte finish)

Out of the five shades available, “call you mine” is one of the three lighter shades. ย I honestly wish these were more pigmented because these are really nice colors and the line has good variety of shades. ย Swatched on the back of my hand, I did have to layer this three to four times to get this to show up.

IMG_5689Flame of desire: Warm toned dark burnt orange shade with fine golden shimmers (satin finish)

This is actually one shade that will show up on my skin, but again, it is barely there. ย I do understand in the East, people like their make up more on the sheer side. On the cheeks, it gives my skin a nice burnt orange flush of color but definitely not a shade I’d use on a daily since this shade would have to go with a specific make up look. ย I can see this go well during the fall time with minimal make up on the eyes other then curled lashes and mascara, this shade and a nude or beige lip color. Overall this shade is one of the better ones and I’d recommend this shade over the other four if you really are itching to get something from the single blush line.

IMG_5692Lusty singing: Cool undertone light creamy peach/ orange popsicle shade (matte finish)

The first time I saw this shade, it reminded me of a shade back when Mac had their Archie collection, the Cream soda shade everyone was going nuts for. ย Just like that shade, this is a very light orange popsicle shade that had the potential to be a gorgeous shade. ย Please don’t mind my picture. ย The glare from the pan threw off the colourings. ย In person, this shade looks more like what it does in the promo picture up above.

IMG_5695Safe forever: Cool undertone light baby pink shade (matte finish)

Again, please ignore the inaccurate color change. ย This shade is very much like what it looks like in the promo picture but a lot more of a light baby pink shade. ย Really pretty color, had the potential but wasn’t executed properly.

IMG_5697Count on me: Cool undertoned dusty berry shade (matte finish)

Out of the five shades, this is the other shade on the darker side. ย This shade, along with Flame of design, are the two that will actually show up decently on the skin. I really love shades like this since it looks very natural on the skin and makes people second guess if you are naturally glowy like that. ย This also reminds me of another Mac blush called “buff”, my very first Mac blush shade. ย I like to bring shades like this up towards the tops of my cheeks, kind of like I’m contouring but with a blush.

Pony effect personal cheek swatchesTexture/ Finish:
The texture of these are silky and creamy but also in a way, ever so slightly powdery. ย These also lack any staying power when on the skin, therefore it being easily wiped off. ย When swatched, these work fine when they are applied with the fingers but it is a different story when used with a brush. ย With a brush, especially the lighter shades, they don’t appear on the cheeks at all. I’m quite fair skin toned, so I was quite surprised when these didn’t even work on me. ย I think this department for these blushes need a lot of work.

Lasting power:
Like I mentioned above, these don’t really have any lasting power. ย Whether it is on bare skin or with some type of base make up/primer, these firstly don’t show up and secondly, don’t last at all. No no no…

Fragrance?:
These do not have any fragrance to it.

Pro:
-goodย varietyย of shades to choose from

Con:
-lacks pigmentation
-lasting power is non-existent
-looks slightly powdery on skin

Repurchase?:
No.

Overall thoughts:
Unfortunately, I do not like these blushes at all. ย They do not work in any shape or form whether it is pigmentation or lasting power, these blushes failed in every department. ย I honestly don’t understand how these even passed the thumbs up before they were massed produced. ย Like how… ย Not much left for me to say about these but these are a big fat No no no no no.

What do you guys think about these? ย Have you guys tried any of Pony effect blushes? ย What are your thoughts about them? ย Let me know in the comments down below and help me give feedback to Pony so they will know what to improve on.
