Piccasso x Hamhyungsik make up spatula set review

It is so odd to see only now has the metal makeup spatula become a trend on TikTok a couple of months ago.ย  I’ve actually seen this technique used by Korean makeup artists for almost a decade now to achieve that signature glass-skin clean girl look.ย  I didn’t get this spatula because it was on trend and popping off.ย  I actually got this back in November since I’ve always had an issue with my foundation always looking too heavy.ย  I usually go for BB cushions as my base makeup, however, all the ones I’ve loved are discontinued now or just hard to get.ย  Giving up on that, I’ve been trying to find me the perfect foundation.ย  Maybe with the right technique, I can now have a flawless finish with less product.ย  Let’s see if it works or not!

Product packaging:
The set I got was a special set that came with a metal plate to mix with. When I was first starting to play with makeup back in my early high school days, I was convinced I might become a makeup artist.ย  Somehow, that didn’t end up happening.ย  But the passion for colors, transformation, and all that still remained. I honestly don’t use the metal plate much since I just use the back of my hand.ย

The mixing plate does come with a nice “leather” sleeve, which is always handy to have if I end up doing my friend’s makeup one day.

“Hand-processed finish for smooth skin texture.
Highest optimized grip for base makeup.
A transparent protective film is attached to both sides of the spatula to prevent scratches and fingerprints.
Leather case for easy portability and storage.”

Now many people have been saying “why would you pay $20 for a metal spatula when you can simply get one from the craft store”.ย  While they aren’t wrong, there is something a bit different about this spatula.ย  Firstly, the sides of the spatula are smoothed out and rounded, making it possible to use the sides of the spatula to glide onto your skin without hurting it.ย  Secondly, I personally haven’t seen a spatula that’s fully straight like this at the craft store.

Not only can you use the butter knife-looking side of the spatula, you can also use the handle too.ย  I personally mainly just use the butter knife side of the spatula for all my mixing and application.ย  You’re also supposed to get your foundation on the side of the “blade” rather than the belly of the spatula.ย  However way you use it will work though, so don’t worry too much about the technicality of it all.

Here’s my bare skin with a bit of redness around the nose and my cheeks.

With one swipe, I was able to thinly apply my makeup so effortlessly.

This is pretty cool!ย  I normally would dab dots onto my face to get an even application, but this is so much better!!

Pat pat pat and add more foundation on the areas that need more coverage.

And voila!ย  Natural, flawless coverage that still looks like skin.ย  I actually really enjoy this technique and find it very helpful to get the foundation on your skin evenly with thin layers.ย  There’s no need to be globbing on massive amounts of foundation.

Pro:
-spatula has a nice hand feel
-sides are smooth for seamless gliding
-easy to wash and store

Con:
I have no complaints!

Repurchase?:
Yes, I would repurchase. I see that they have two other shapes as well that I’ll be checking out.

Overall thoughts:
I’m actually happy the metal spatula is getting all the attention on TikTok right now. BLOW THAT SHIT UP! This technique will really promote even everyday people to use an artistry technique that has been looked over for a while and to aid in everyone’s more fresh-faced, skin-looking foundation application.ย  Overall I give this spatula a fat thumbs up and it is worth the $20.ย  You can keep this forever as long as you just clean it after every use.
