Bon Vivant Illuminator Age Cover mask Review + Demo

Korean sheet masks have been all the rage lately and the western part of the world is finally catching on, but a hefty price tag is always attached to it. Bon Vivant is definitely one of my favorite lines under Memebox’s line of product, in which they also produce one of my most favorite sheet masks ever.  When I heard there were new sheet masks, I was all hearts in my eyes.  I absolutely loved their first three sheet masks, the Botanical masks, so I have absolute high hopes for these babies.  Unlike the botanical masks, these are a lot thicker in texture with a milky essence and they also offer a “inner glow” afterwards with the pearl, gold and diamond essence.  Okay, let’s get started with the review and testing process!  Let’s go~~ （。＞ω＜）。

How to use:
After cleansing the face, apply the sheet mask and let it soak into the skin for 15-20 minutes.  Once the 15-20 minutes is up, take off the sheet mask and let the essence absorb.

Product packaging/ sheet mask texture:
This sheet masks comes in a two step process and is also packaged separately.  “Step 1” is for the top half of the face (eyes, forehead, cheeks) and “step 2” is for the bottom half of the face (cheeks, mouth, chin).  Both steps have the same essence, just differently shaped for the face, obviously. 

The back of the sheet masks has information about the sheet mask but most of it is Korean.  One important section that is in English is the ingredients!  Yey :D.

Other then the outside packaging, which isn’t that important, the material of the sheet mask is the most notable.  This illuminator age cover mask has a super thick material, something they call “700 nano fiber sheets”.  It sounds like a car or a computer part HAHA.  They say that the “special fiber allows for better absorption of the serum…by hugging onto your face”. 

When you first unwrap your sheet mask, it will look like this.  It will be folded up with a mesh looking thing that separates the folds.

Make sure to take away the mesh before you use it. I’ve used other sheet masks, ones I haven’t ever used before, not knowing the layer that separates the mask is suppose to be taken off before application. So I’m sitting here wondering why the mask is so stiff and rough… silly silly girl.

Peel away and apply!

Fit:
As for the fit of this sheet mask, the cut of the mask is quite standard other than it being sliced off from the center.  I do wish that they had the same nose slits around the top of my nose so it could sit better as they had in the botanical sheet mask.

The outer parts of the mask kind of flaps out but I just fold it inwards a bit.

One sad part for  big forehead girls is, we can never find hats or sheet masks to fit all the way.  Curse this big forehead!  Not the sheet mask’s fault but I have yet to find one for my giant forehead.

This sheet mask really does hug the face.  It seems like I’m getting a face lift or something.  I can even jam to heavy metal and the sheet mask won’t fall off.  They did a test on an apple, but I will do the ultimate test.  Watch the video to see proof :).

20 minutes later…. and the sheet mask isn’t dry at all!  In fact, the sheet mask is still nice and moist from all the essence soacked into the thick material.  I did use one of these on my flight to Hong Kong.  On the plane, the air was circulating quite strong with the fan blowing extra hard.  Maybe because the washroom was right behind my chair so they turned it up or something.  During that time, the mask did dry up a bit but I left it on for 30 minutes or so and the wind was blowing in my face.

Time to peel it off!

As you can see, the sheet mask leaves the milky essence on your face since it isn’t a runny liquid but a cream like texture. Do make sure to massage it into the skin well.  The first time I tried it, I forgot to massage it well on one part of my face and I noticed after the cream absorbed into my skin, there was a blob of shimmer looking stuff on my face.  I asked the Memebox team if there are shimmer particles in the mask but they told me it isn’t shimmers but refined particles of gold, diamond and pearl (depending on which one you use).

I wouldn’t compare this Bon Vivant mask with their first one since this one is a completely different specie itself.  The first one is more for deep hydration while this Illuminator one is more luxurious feeling and leaves your skin looking instantly glowy, brightened and like the name says, illuminated.

With this amount of glow happening, I feel like I can direct air traffic by shining light on my face LOL. YAS skincare strobing at it’s finest.

With the slightly higher price tag, this one would definitely for when there is a special occasion or when I want to feel extra fabulous.  Glow on!

Moisture level measurements:
Not only does this sheet mask give you an instant glow, it also gives you a boost of hydration.  With all of the sheet masks I review, I take it to the ultimate test and go to bed with nothing but the essence on my face.  I woke up the next day with no tightness and I even forgot to put on moisturize when I headed out the door to go to work.  So this mask definitely passes my hydration test.

pH level:
This sheet mask’s essence has a pH level of 5 (neutral).  On my dry skin, it did not irritate it at all.

Fragrance?:
The illuminator age cover mask has a light floral scent with a hint of soapy-ness.  It’s definitely not a super strong scent but it might annoy those who don’t like fragrance.  Smell-o-scale= 6/10

Pro:
-hydrates well
-leaves skin super glowy without greasiness

Con:
-hard to purchase, only sold on Memebox USA, Korea (Memebox does sell some products on Amazon!)

Overall thoughts:
I absolutely love this mask but I don’t think it would be one for me to use everyday since $4 ($5.50 CDN) could rack up to a lot of cash in the long run.  So this would be a special occasion or when I’m feeling like I want glow like a firefly, this would be one to go to.  Overall this is a great mask and an even better make up base. I give this a two thumbs up and the green light to get one for yourself to try.
