The beauty of Joseon has absolutely exploded in popularity in the last year, especially their Beauty of Joseon relief sun rice probiotics.ย To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on testing out it since the texture seemed to look like a lot of other lightweight sunscreens on the Korean market these days.ย It took my close friend visit from San Francisco to ask me “Hey, have you heard about this sunscreen? I tried it and LOVE it”, for me to finally end up getting it to review.ย So let’s see if this Beauty of Joseon sunscreen is worth the hype.

“Relief Sun is a lightweight and creamy type organic sunscreen that’s comfortable on skin. Even if you apply a large amount several times, it is not sticky and gives a moist finish like that of a light moisturizing cream. Containing 30% rice extract and grain-fermented extracts, it provides moisture and nourishment to the skin.
Lightweight cream texture
It is similar to a light moisturizing cream, and it is not sticky or slippery even if you apply it several times.
After absorption, it provides a natural glow without a white cast.

How to use:
At the last step of skincare routine, evenly spread a generous amount over areas vulnerable to sun exposure.
Product packaging:
The packaging of the Beauty of Joseon SPF comes in a simple squeeze tube with a twist-off cap.ย I think this is the most efficient way to package sunscreen and it doesn’t take up much space nor is it too heavy to carry around.ย This sunscreen comes with 50 mL of product, which is also quite standard and a great bang for your buck.
Texture/ Finish:
The texture of this sunscreen is very lightweight, and watery and absorbs into the skin easily with no heavy feeling to the skin.ย The rice and probiotic does leave my skin feeling slightly softened, which is a nice touch.ย I personally don’t feel as though this sunscreen is revolutionary with so many other lightweight sunscreens with no white cast already on the market.ย Examples would be Thank you farmer sun project water sun cream (or any of Thank you farmer’s sunscreens), Round lab birch juice moisturizing sun cream or even Barr centella soothing sun essence are all sunscreens that are super comfortable and lightweight on the skin.ย
Specifically, Round lab and Beauty of Joseon are both manufactured by Kolmar, so I won’t even be surprised if the formulation is the same with just some minor differences.ย Round lab birch juice moisturizing sun cream is THE top-selling sunscreen in Korea domestically, while Beauty of Joseon is marketed more for the overseas market.ย Only recently did they expand in Korea domestically.ย I even saw them in Olive Young when I was at the Myeongdong location.
White cast?:
I am happy to report there is absolutely no white cast for the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen.ย This is a given since this is a 100% chemical sunscreen with all chemical filters built into the formula.ย So if you need sunscreen under makeup and you know you’ll be photographed, this is the sunscreen to use!
Let’s test this out on the skin!
Here is my bare skin.ย I’m having a lot of irritation and even pimples these days.ย I’m wondering if it is my skin purging from retinol, or are the actives I’m using too strong for my skin.ย I usually have dry skin, leaning more towards normal to dry these days for summer since I’m sweating up a storm.
All over my face, this sunscreen give a slight healthy glow to the skin and it doesn’t make it look like I’m sweaty.ย I do get why so many people enjoy this sunscreen.ย I think it is a universally loved sunscreen by all skin types, has no white cast, and absorbs into the skin quickly while not drying out your skin throughout the day.

Overall thoughts:
I think this sunscreen is good, however, it is quite similar to a lot of other sunscreens from the K-beauty market that I’ve tried.ย It is lightweight, absorbs into the skin easily, and hydrates throughout the day.ย What more can you really ask for?ย Do I think people seem to overreact on Tiktok these days? Yes.ย They seem to want to hype for the sake of hyping.ย Overall I give this a 4/5 stars and would recommend it if you are looking for a sunscreen with all those criteria being checked off the list.
