Pony effect Stay put eye stick Review

I think the most exciting thing ever is when Pony comes out with new make up.  I know, I’m such a fangirl but I can’t help it! She creates awesome videos and amazing transformation.  Just recently, she did a full transformation of Taylor Swift and it went viral with 5 million views in just 3 days.  She’s definitely a force of her own and pretty much the Michelle Phan of Asia.  I reviewed her line of make up back in November but I wasn’t fully impressed with the products.  I expected a lot more but they weren’t delivering up to my standard, especially since she is a make up artist herself. This time around, I have high hopes for her line of make up so don’t disappoint me this time Pony! Product packaging:
When you first get these eye sticks, they come in this gorgeous boxes with rose gold accent and a matte black box.

On the side of the boxes, there are little stickers with the names both in English and Korean and a color indication to tell you what color is inside.

Also on the bottom of each pencil is the color of each shade which always comes in handy.  I hate it when packaging doesn’t have some type of quite color indicator (NARS cough cough).  The color on the bottom is also very close to the actual shade of the pencil, which is always nice since we know the product developers aren’t color blind.

The pencil itself comes in a twist up black plastic packaging with the Pony effect logo printed in a metallic rose gold shade.  On the side of each pencil prints what the product name is, the shade name and other standard information such as where it is manufactured and the expiration date.  The cream eyeshadow stick comes in a 4.5 mm size for a more precise application rather then the usual jumbo pencil size.   They say you can use these as an eyeliner as well but I honestly wouldn’t since the shades aren’t dark enough to be an eyeliner.

Color/ Pigmentation:
In the whole line of eye stick, they come in 12 shades which includes 4 mattes, 7 shimmers and 1 slightly sparkly shade.  I’m actually surprised to find the matte brown shades have a very warm undertone since this is a Asian focused line of make up.

The most unique shade out of the shimmer shades would have to be “otherwise” and would be the shade I’d choose if I was limiting myself to one shade out of the shimmery ones.  Most of the shades they offer at the moment is quite generic, but the formulation is really good so I’ll forgive them haha.
I just want to point out that untamed is one of those shades I call “dragon scale” colors. I’ve loved a cool brick red shade with an odd teal shimmery pairing since the discovery of a similar shade in Wet n Wild’s comfort zone palette.  GORGEOUS!  And yes I’m aware that “untamed” isn’t a matte shade, I only noticed that when I was editing.  Silly me….

Having matte cream eye shadow sticks was a smart move since there aren’t many good matte cream eyeshadow pencils out there.  I think they need to expand on the matte formula since there aren’t many in the market, both Korean and Western with a good creamy consistency and a long lasting formulation in a stick format. I am slightly disappointed the two brown shades offered in the line isn’t really dark enough for me to use solely these pencils to create a full look without it looking muddy.  The colors are too similar and I hope to see deeper and darker shades in the future.  And if they want us to use these as eyeliners, they have to at least add a dark carbon black.

Here is the look I created using just the pencils themselves as eyeshadows.  Of course I used my own mascara and eyeliner to line my waterline.

I used “deep focus” first to carve out my eye socket and used my fingers to blend them out.  Then I put “rose dress” on the inner part of my crease and also around the outer V to create depth.  Sadly the shades aren’t different enough for me to create the depth difference I want and just looks like one shade to be honest.  I finished it off with “ducky” on the center of my lids for a subtle shimmer and on my tear duct to brighten to whole look.  Lastly, I used “deep focus” again just on the outer V to try and deepen the look.

These sticks are great if you want a very subtle and natural look.  If you are one that loves really dramatic looks, I’d suggest you use these as a color base or use one or two for a look and then other products you have in your collection to create your look.

Texture/ Finish:
Right when you contact your skin with these creamy eyeshadow sticks, these glide over your skin like butter with maximum pigmentation.  I’ve had a lot of experience with Korean gel eyeliners and cream shadows, so I knew these would definitely not disappoint.  Those that are matte finish dry down matte, and those that are shimmery sets true to color.  The only shade that slightly transfers is “beam me up”, but it is just the chunkier glitter particles that transfers around.  Every other shades had no problem staying put.

You have only about 30 seconds to work with these if you were to blend them, and after that they set.  I’ve rubbed them, sprayed water on them and then rubbed but they don’t seem to budge.  Heck, I even went to shower with the swatches still on my hand after I finished taking pictures of these and WOW.  I’m blown away honestly.  I didn’t expect these to hold up as well as they do, even with water!  It took me about 8 vigorous rubbing on the back of my hand for them to finally fade away in eraser bits style.  Bloody blown away…. (ﾉ^ヮ^)ﾉ*:・ﾟ✧

Lasting power:
Personally for me and my dry skin with very little oil secretion on the eye lids, I didn’t have a problem with these fading away.  When I used these, I didn’t use any primer and I was fine for 6 hours with very slight fading after that.  I can’t speak for those with oily lids but if that is the case and you are worried, it never hurts to use a bit of primer underneath.  With the formula after it has set, it doesn’t seem to crease at all which is actually quite rare!  Overall, the lasting power is already in the name…. STAY PUT BABY!

Overall thoughts:
Even though I think they shades they are offering this time around are shades you can find elsewhere, the formulation sets them apart with its budge-proof, water resistance finish.  These do set very quality and you’d have to have a quick hand to blend these out but these will last you at least 8 hours, if not longer.  One big thing they will have to work on is creating deeper and darker shades.  Other then that, I have no problems with these pencils and would definitely recommend you guys check these out if you are in the market for a twist up cream stick shadow and I give it my seal of awesomeness!
