Pony effect Sharpening brow definer Review + swatches+ demo

Pony effect shaping brow definer review and swatchesPony has been killin’ it lately with her releases, whether it is her transformation videos or her own line of make up. ย Just recently she has added a “essentials” line to her brand which included a foundation, powder compact, beauty sponge, mascara, brow pencil and tint, cream eyeshadow sticks (check out the review here) and lip tints as well. ย Sadly Memebox US couldn’t bring over the powder compact or the foundation because FDA would take up to 2 years to approve the SPF ingredients. ย Well poo… But it’s okay because we still got most of the products from her new essentials line. I think the star product out of the rest of the collection is definitely the sharpening brow definer” which screams Anastasia Beverly Hill’s famous brow wiz. ย With that being said, shall we start on the review?ย โ•ญ( ๏ฝฅใ…‚๏ฝฅ)ูˆ

Just for comparison, here is Anastasia’s ingredients list for the brow wiz. ย Yes I brought the receipts as Wendy Williams would say kekeke.
Anastasia brow wiz:ย Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil/Hydrogenated Huile Vรฉgรฉtale, Zinc Stearate, Stearic Acid, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol. May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510).

So we can already say that they almost have the same formula with Hydrongenated soybean oil, hydrogenated coco-glycerides both being the same first two ingredients, while zinc stearate, Copernicia Cerifera, (Carnauba) wax, Triisostearate can be found in both products with the almost the same ingredients list positioning.

Pony effect brow pencilProduct packaging:
Pony effect’s sharping brow definer comes in a lightweight black plastic pencil form with rose gold caps on each side and rose gold font for her logo.

IMG_1787

IMG_1789One side is the actual pencil itself with it’s very fine 1.5 mm tip and the other side comes with a spooly.

IMG_1790The spooly is actually really nice and very comparable to Anastasia’s in terms of the bristles being shorter then usual and not too scratchy. ย I do use this spooly when I am blending out my lines.

IMG_1791The tip comes in a very fine 1.5 mm size, which is pretty much identical to Anastasia’s. ย I’m not sure if you guys know this, but if you have it or if you are in stores, you can see on the back of the pencil that Anastasia’s brow wiz is manufactured in Korea. ย So I’m really not surprised if this is the exact same product.

How to use:
I think Pony herself would be able to explain this to you. ย Pretty much you can use it by itself to create realistic looking hair strokes, clean up the shape of your brows or just simply fill them in, this product can pretty much do it all. ย If you are going to use this product alongside the tint, I’d recommend shaping your brows with this pencil first before going in with the brow tints since the brow tints will just tint your hairs and not give it shape.

Pony effect sharping brow definer swatchColor/ Pigmentation:
I personally only have one shade to work with which is “natural brown”, so I can only comment on this shade. ย In the promo picture, the natural brow looks like a cool tone brown with a slight hint of reddish undertones. ย In my swatch picture, it looks very neutral with no reddish undertone. ย However after I apply it to my brows, the slight reddish undertones appear. ย I’m not sure if I’m just trippin’ since my hair color is a lighter bronzey brown, but it definitely makes my brows look like lion king fur. ย This shade works for me at the moment with my dyed hair color, but I think I will buy deep brown in the future if I go back to my natural dark brow, and almost black hair.

From the picture above, you can see that you can create very fine hair-like strokes, slightly darker and less realistic stroke,s or even a straight line. I personally like the versatility this product gives you but I wish they will come out with refills so you don’t always have to buy the whole pencil since it does only come with 0.05 g of product.

Texture/ Finish:
Surprisingly the texture of this pencil is not creamy at all. ย In fact, it has more of a harder, slightly powdery texture but it is ideal for drawing in your brows. ย You don’t want a creamy eyeliner-like pencil or else you’ll end up with Lee Hyori’s brows in her Bad girl music video.

So what I’m saying, the slightly harder texture of the pencil aids in drawing the most realistic brow hairs. ย It does get slightly crumbly when you apply it on the skin, but it isn’t something that would become a problem.

Whooo girlfriend… If I was in a rush in the morning and my brows ended up like this and I didn’t have enough time to fix it, I’d be pissed too. ย Dayum gurl!

Lasting power:
I didn’t have any problems with lasting power on my brows. ย It lasted me the whole day (8+ hours) and then started to slightly fade at the ends of my brows and slightly in the front as well.

*Tip*: Apply some of your eyeshadow primer on your brows before you do anything. ย This will help with the lasting power and would be able to pick up more product as well! ย I don’t know why I never thought of this before, until I saw it somewhere and everything just clicked.

Fragrance:
No fragrance detected.
IMG_1656Okay let’s try this product on!

IMG_1658No brow products on at all! ย Bare brows… yes I have lots of hair and I only recently discovered what waxing your brows can do for your face LOL. ย I got called out for having man eyebrows….what….ย (โ€ขฬ€oโ€ขฬ)เธ‡ ย

Story time:
So couple years back when I first met my boyfriend out of a whim while going to an ex. friend (not friends with her anymore because she is CRAZY!) graduation, we all ended up going out for dinner at a sushi restaurant. ย Everything was going fine, slightly awkward but still fine, and suddenly some random girl who happened to be a friend of my (now) boyfriend’s friend appeared and started eating with us. ย Cool… I didn’t know this but my boyfriend told me this story half a year later that the girl was actually trying to be his girlfriend, but my boyfriend didn’t like her at all. ย She even went to the extent of insulting me and saying I had such manly features and had huge man eyebrows.ย ( อกยฐ ๏ธฟ ยฐอก )

Fast forward to 6 months ago, I was taking the bus like always but my boyfriend was with me for some reason. ย We got on the bus, and I sensed someone kept looking back at our direction. ย I didn’t think anything of it, until halfway through the ride, the couple walked to the back of the bus where we were and sit across. ย The girl proceeded to say “Oh my gosh! ย Is that you Kevin (not my real boyfriend’s name)”. ย I’m like.. dafuq? ย Who are these stranger? ย STRANGER DANGER!! ย RUN!

Turns out, it was the same girl that was hitting on him back in the day but she is now married and VERY pregnant. ย Like 8 months, watermelon belly kinda very pregnant. ย I was honestly really concerned as to why she was taking the bus since it would be potentially dangerous for the baby if she were to fall or what not. ย The whole time they were having a conversation, all I can hear in the back of my head was “man eyebrows, man eyebrows”. LOL ย I’m not mad at her, I just think it was a funny story that stuck. ย I’m glad she found a loving husband and she seems to have changed into a really nice person so I’m happy for her :). ย Best wishes to you and your family if you just so happen to read this HAHA.

Okay, back to regular programming.IMG_1659I tried making realistic hair strokes, but honestly it doesn’t even show up because I have so much brow hairs. ย I ended up just trying to define my brows more then fill them in. ย I usually just use a little bit of brow powder and call it a day. ย On a no make up, bare face day, I just roll out of bed and leave it as is. ย I just need to make sure I keep up with the puking or it is unibrow city for me!

IMG_1663Create the shape you want and then fill the rest in!

IMG_1665Looks rough around the edges. ย That’s what blending is for!

IMG_1666

IMG_1667Done! ย I think HAHA. ย You be the judge of thatย โ—Ÿ(โ—”เธฑโ‚€โ—”เธฑ )โ—žย

IMG_1693Here is what it looks like further away, left side done and right side completely bare. ย Quite a big difference if I do say so myself.

brow pencil battleI wish I had my brow wiz on hand to do the comparison but I sadly don’t have it anymore. ย Pretty much what I’m saying, there is little to no difference between Pony effect’s brow definer and Anastasia brow wiz, even down to the ingredients. ย Granted the ingredients list is not completely identical, but there are ingredients as I have mentioned up above which both contain the same amounts. ย The only big difference is the price, Pony effect’s brow pencil retailing for $13 and you can buy it through coupons and points if you have any, compared to Anastasia’s Brow wiz retailing for $21 and it is never on discount.

Pro:
-nice fine tip for versatility
-spooly is actually good!
-blends into skin effortlessly

Con:
-hard to buy if not living in Korea, US, China

Overall thoughts:
I think this product is a great alternative for those of you who already love the Anastasia brow wiz but also want to save a few bucks. ย I’d definitely recommend you try this one out if you can find a shade that suits you. ย Overall this product is really awesome but for me personally, the fine tip would take me forever to fill in my brows and I’d use the pencil up in a blink of an eye. ย I will use this pencil when I want a really polished, sharp brow look but for daily use, I will stick to my Skinfood choco brow powder. ย This product almost for my seal of awesomeness but because it contains so little product, I can’t give it the seal since you guys would be using this product up in a blink of an eye.

What do you guys think about this product? ย Do you have the brow wiz and does this look similar in your opinion? ย Do you have Pony’s brow pencil and what shade are you? ย Let me know in the comments down below what you are thinking

Thanks for the review! Makes me want to buy one now and I haven’t got the brow wiz but I’ve always wanted to try it.

The brow wiz is a nice product but not for the price. Plus it is also made in Korea so you might as well just get the Pony effect one LOL

  3. Victoria

Which eye shadow shade were you using here? Really pretty!

I’m sorry but it was way too long ago so I don’t even remember. I really should list what I use on the bottom of my blog post T_T.
