Pony effect Ink lip stain Review + swatch

Pony effect ink lip stain review and swatchesKoreans do love their lip tints. ย Markets, pens, glass bottles, oil infused tints, you name it, most likely they have it. ย Pony effect not falling short from the tinting game, she also has a marker format of lip tints, something that I don’t have many in my collection due to it usually drying up pretty fast. ย I do have hopes that Pony will make a solid lip product, so I have high hopes for this product. ย Let’s put it to the test and see if they are any good! ย ๊ฐ€์žย ๏ผˆ๏พ‰๏ฝกโ‰งโ—‡โ‰ฆ๏ผ‰๏พ‰

How to use:
For natural just-bitten look, apply to the inner corners of the lips and blend out. For full lip makeup, line the lips and fill in.

Memetip: Wipe off excess oil and keep the lid closed after each use to prevent the marker from drying out. Recommended to store laid flat.

Pony effect lip stainProduct packaging:
Packaging for these tint markets kind of remind me of Covergirl’s lip stain markets from a long time ago. ย I either had one of those or tested them out in store and found the tip was really stiff and the product would dry out really quickly.

Pony effect ink lip stainThese ink lip stains come in a dark blue-ish grey plastic marker style with the end and the logo coloured as the shade it houses.

Pony effect ink lip stainThe lid snaps securely into the pen and I store it upside down so the product can flow towards to tip for easier application when I do go and use it. ย The market tip looks as if it is stiff, but it actually is kind of soft and dispenses the right amount of product effortlessly. ย I’ve had these for about a month or two now and I haven’t had an issue with them drying out on me.

IMG_5899The marker itself is also very easy to use and straight forward. ย The only problem I have with it is that sometimes the tip dries out faster then the belly of the marker, so I find myself applying the stain more with the belly.

IMG_5901The size of the marker is also perfectly thought out, not too big and not too small. ย Small enough for you to be able to do detailed work but big enough so you won’t be sitting there fine lining your lips for half an hour.

Color/ Pigmentation:
Pony effect’s ink lip stains come in ten shades with a good variation of coloursย including light pinks, corals, oranges, berries and red shades. ย As for me, my lips are quite pigmented so light coloursย don’t really show up on me. ย Yes, I could neutralize it with concealer and what not but I prefer not to do that since I don’t like my lips looking and feeling heavy. ย The point of a tint is to have a natural and lightweight feel to your lips, but caking it up with a bunch of product.
IMG_5894Here is a picture of my bare lips with nothing but a clear balm on for you guys to compare the before and after.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchHonest: Warm tone light coral shade leaning more to the orange side

Like I’ve mentioned before, my lips are quite pigmented so light shades don’t really show up on my lips. ย Honest is a really pretty colour that gives my lips a light wash of colour, however it looks more like a light orange then a coral colour. ย Also excuse the dark looking spot in the inner lip. ย For some reason, lip stains like to gather on my top lip even though I’ve exfoliated and moisturized sufficiently. ย Odd… very odd. ย Definitely not the lip stain’s fault.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchEasy going: Cool tone light peachy pink shade

On the lips, this shade looks very similar to “Honest” but with a touch more of a pink tone to it. ย If you’re torn between the two light shades, I’d say this one would be a better pink since it shows up a little bit more on the lips.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchModest: Cool tone light ox blood shade

Out of the ten shades available, this is the last of the lighter shades. ย Unlike the other two, this shade is a bit more unique. ย Not another coral/ orange or a cherry shade but a light ox blood shade that makes my lips look extra juicy somehow. ย Swatched on the back of my hand (or arm haha), this shade looks kind of patchy and doesn’t seem to show up, but it works just fine on the lips.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchClever:ย Warm tone darker raspberryย coral shade

This shade kind of looks like “Easy going” although this one is a bit darker and is a warm tone instead of a cool tone colour. ย On the lips, “Clever”ย is brighter and looks more orange then coral while “Easy going” is like the twin, water colour version.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchGenerous: Warm tone burnt orange shade

Is it just me or the more I look at my lip swatches they are starting to look the sameย ยฐห–โœงโ—(โฐโ–ฟโฐ)โ—œโœงห–ยฐ. ย Falling into the orange/ coral category, “generous” is on the burnt and muted side so if you’re looking for something that isn’t so bright, this one is for you.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchPositive: Warm toned bright pink shade with blue undertones

This shade is definitely the most unique shade out of the ten available. ย Seems like the k-beauty scene doesn’t have a lot of bright fuchsia or at least they don’t have many that can get it right. ย This one from Pony has the perfect balance of being a bright fuchsia but still able to suit my skintone. ย This one, surprisingly, will be a shade I will continue to use!ย

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchOptimistic:ย Warm tone mixed berry shade

If “positive” is way to bright for your liking, why not try “optimistic”? ย This shade is similar to Positive, however it is more muted and easier to wear if you’re not looking for a BAM in your face shade.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchFrank:ย Cool tone cherry red shade

Looking for a more classic colour? “Frank” could be the one for you since it is an easy to wear shade and it is also muted enough to be a no brainer colour. ย This shade would be great during the fall and winter time when you want just a touch of colour to make your lips look lively.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchWise:ย Warm toned blackberry red shade

Out of the reddish shades available, this one would be one I’d wear during the fall/winter time since it has a nice blackberry undertone to it. ย You do have to careful with the three darker shades since this is a tint, they do feather and bleed through the fine lines which you can clearly see on my top lip where the cupid’s bow is. ย Since this is a reddish berry shade, it is more apparent then the others.

Pony effect ink lip stain swatchSensitive:ย Cool tone dark grape purpleย shade

Last but not least, “sensitive” which is a dark and vampyย champagne grape shade. ย Again, on the back of my hand, it doesn’t seem to show up that much but on the lips it works just fine. ย This shade does feather through the fine lines so I’d either use a invisible lip liner or do the gradation lip look with it.

Texture/ Finish:
All this lip tints have a nice moisturizing formula which is still comfortable to wear after couple hours. ย I sometimes have the trouble with lip tints making my lips dry after two hours and me needing to use a lip balm of some sort. ย With this lip tints, my lips seems to be just fine. ย In fact, I have tried using these tints when my lips were not prepped with lip balm of any sort and they still went on my lips fine other then it looking slightly patchy due to it clinging to the more drier parts, which is very normal. ย All of these have a moisturized lip effect, not drying but not glossy.

Lasting power:
Since these are “lip stains”, I expect them to be long lasting and these are!! ย Sometimes when I’m in the mood for just a wash of colour or I regret using the wrong shade, I would wipe these off with an oil based make up remover but it stained my lips so much to the point of no return. ย That could ย be a good or bad thing. ย Sometimes I find that quite irritating because you will be stuck with that color for a good day and a half. After about 6 hours, the color fades but your lips are still very much stained. ย After about a day, you get that “is she wearing anything on her lips or does her lips look like that normally” look.

IMG_5910Once you have applied the stain onto your lips and it fully dries, which takes only about 40 seconds or so, the lip stain does not budge! ย I’ve tried drinking liquids and it doesn’t seem to transfer. ย Eating a burger however is a different story. ย The greasiness of the burger makes the stain fade faster but nothing dramatic.

IMG_5911One thing I do have to note is, if you are planning to use this all over the lips, you have to be wary of the edges of your lips. ย When you first apply it, it is fine and dandy. ย After about two hours, the edges start to fade which makes it look very odd since the front and a little bit of the side portion looks fine but the sides are almost completely gone. ย Again, you might want to consider either doing the gradation look with this product or use a really good clear lip liner.

Fragrance?:
All these markers have a slight fruity fragrance to it, a scent that reminds me of mango or a tropical fruit. ย The fragrance does go away after application. ย Smell-o-scale= 5/10 for the strength of scent.

Pro:
-very beginner user friendly/ easy to use
-travel friendly
-good variation of shades
-gorgeous water color looking finish

Con:
-may dry out quickly

Repurchase?:
Maybe

Overall thoughts:
I think this product is a really solid lip tint that offers an even application and also comes in a very easy to use format. ย They come in ten shades which has a good variety of light to dark, corals, red to berry shades. ย The stain itself is gorgeous and you are able to control how soft or bold you’d want your lips to look that day with it’s watercolour looking finish. ย I personally love the transparent lip look since the strong and bold lip look isn’t for me. ย Overall this product is designed well with just the minor issue of them possibly drying out since these are a marker. ย That hasn’t happened to me just yet, but so far with the two months I’ve had them, I haven’t had a problem with it so it is a minor concern. ย Overall I really do like these products and will be continuing using them.

What do you guys think about these marker lip tints from Pony effect? ย Which shades is your favourite? ย Do you have any of these and what are your experiences with them so far? ย Let me know in the comments down below and tell me what you think!

My lips were on FIRE LOL. I had to take a break (like one full day) before I could finish swatching the rest of the shades. When I see Pony effect having new lip products, at first I’m like YEY! They are so pretty, so many colours, I wonder how the formula will be. Then it hits me……… HAHAHAH. Help me…
