Polatam Sheet Mask First Impression Review

Korean sheet masks has been a thing I’ve been trying to get myself to get into but because I’m not the type to like to sit and do nothing while I wait for 15 minutes, it feels more like a chore then a luxury.  However, the times I finally find ones that work with my skin and actually does something for my skin, I find absolute joy and excitement when it is time for a sheet mask.  Bisou beauty bar messaged me and asked if I’d like to try out a new brand that they are carrying called “Polatam”.  Since it is such a new brand (at least to me) and there doesn’t seem to be many reviews on it, I agreed and here we are!  So let’s get into the review and see if these sheet masks are worth it~ ✮⃛( ◞´•௰•`)✮⃛

P.S. I’m breaking up these sheet masks into two parts since I’ve only tried two of them and don’t want to wait forever to get these reviews out.  So this part one review will be on their pure cream mask line

A little bit about the brand, yes.. this is another brand created by another famous actress.  Reminiscent of J.one cosmetics with a famous actress backing up the brand, Polatam is created by actress Park Tam Hee.  I honestly haven’t heard or seen any of her work so her behind the brand doesn’t do anything for me.  Hey, at least you know I’m not bias!

“Polatam’s Pure Cream Mask is a soft and silky sheet mask made of cupro cotton which can hold up to 10 times the amount of essence than regular cotton sheet masks! The Pure Cream masks have a creamy essence that is extremely soothing and moisturizing – we think anyone would agree.

How to use:
After you have cleansed and toned your face, apply the mask and wait for 15-20 minutes for the essence to soak into the skin.  Once the time is up, peel off the mask and massage the rest of the essence into the skin.  For the leftover essence in the packet, massage it down your neck and on the rest of your body if you please.

Product packaging:
Since I only have one of each of these masks, I can’t talk about the box that it comes in but then again, it doesn’t really matter now does it haha.  The packet that it comes in is very simple, sleek design with the name on the front.  Honestly there isn’t much to it really…

Since there isn’t much point in splitting up the review and demo into two, let’s just do it all at the same time and I’ll talk you though it. 

My skin profile:
 -dry to very dry skin (especially during the winter time)
-slightly sensitive around the cheeks but overall, skin is resilient (less prone to irritation, inflammation)
-redness around cheeks, chin and nose

I look mainly for hydration all year round since my skin is very dry.  I don’t have many fine lines or wrinkles at the moment so all I need for a mask to give me is moisture.  If it can do that and give my skin a long lasting effect, I’m happy.

Oh and yes, I do notice I still have a bit of make up underneath my left eye.  Please excuse it haha…. sorry -_-

Texture/ Finish:
Ripping open the packet reveals the mask sitting in a creamy essence.  I don’t know why I was expecting the essence to be clear but then again… I must be blind because it says CREAM in the name.  Duhhhh…  Although the essence has a creamy look to it, it actually is more of a gel.  I can’t really explain it very well but it has a lightweight consistency that gets absorbed into the skin easily and quickly.  After it has been absorbed, it doesn’t leave any greasiness to the skin.  In fact, my skin is so moisturized, I don’t even feel the need to used moisturizer!  That is how good the mask is :).

The sheet mask material seems to be medium thickness but it is definitely high quality, strong and holds the essence very well. The cupro cotton is also very soft on the skin for a very comfortable wear.

Fit (sheet mask):
One of the most important thing that makes or breaks a sheet mask is the cut of it.  A lot of companies don’t pay attention to the nose bridge around which is a big problem since it usually doesn’t sit properly and is always the first part to dry up.  Luckily this time around, Polatam paid attention to fine details and had that slit which helps for the mask to sit nicely on the cheeks and nose.

The rest of the sheet mask sits very well and this cut also almost covers my five finger forehead GASP!

The sides has a little bit hanging but meh, I’d rather have that then a sheet mask that is too small.

Now all there is to do is wait.

15-20 minutes later and this is what the mask looks like.  It seems to have dried up a slightly on the areas that wasn’t touching my skin, however the parts that are touching my face, they are still soaked with essence!  Oh la la~~

Here’s a close look to what the sheet mask material is made of.  I’ve tried to rip it but it doesn’t seem to rip easily unless you use some scissors.

Now all there is left to do is pat the essence.  Make sure to massage the essence down your neck too.  The neck is one of the biggest signs of aging so don’t neglect it!

Ahhh, my skin feels cooled, refreshed and super moisturized.  I’m scared I’ve fallen in love with this mask since it is $6 a piece!

Moisture level measurements:
As you can seen from the numbers, this sheet mask truly injects the skin instantaneously with a ridicoulous amount of moisture.  The effect it gives kind of reminds me of the I’m from I’m honey mask I got a while back.

Fragrance?:
Smell wise, this sheet mask kind of smells like toilet cleaner + floral LOL… like very clean, slightly soapy but nothing that bothers my nose.  I honestly don’t know how to describe it and since I used this mask a while back and only have one, I can only rely on the notes I took of it.  It doesn’t smell bad whatsoever but that is just the first thing that comes to mind honestly.  Smell-o-scale=6/10 for the strength of the fragrance.

Pro:
-great fit on the face (sheet mask cut)
-super moisturizing
-didn’t irritate my skin
-mask material was able to retain essence for long period of time

Con:
-on the slightly pricer side 4,900 won/retailed $6 on online sites (but I think the price is justified)

Repurchase?:
Most definitely!

Overall thoughts:
I think it is quite clear that I’m in love with this mask along with the rest of Korea.  From what I heard, these sheet masks is the #1 sheet mask sold in Lohbs (a Korean store… kinda like Watsons I believe) and I can honestly see why.  Not many North American K-beauty online stores carry them at the moment, only Bisou Beauty Bar and Glow Recipe carries them so you know where to get them if you want to get your hands on em.  Overall I think these sheet masks are pretty amazing and it would easily have been a holy grail if I had been able to try them a few more times, but because it is a first impression, it wouldn’t be fair to make it a holy grail just like that.  If you are in the market for some awesome sheet masks with a great cut and a gorgeous essence, I highly you guys check these out!  Two thumbs up, even my super dry skin says so.
