Laneige water sleeping mask original, lavender, cica review I Which is the best sleeping mask

Laneige water sleeping mask original, lavender, cica reviewI have a love-hate relationship with Laneige sometimes.  Some products like their cream skin line work for me but other products do nothing.  It is a big hit or miss and maybe it is the fact that a lot of their products are super lightweight and caters more towards those with normal to oily skin type or because it is designed for a more humid environment.  Even though their best selling sleeping pack doesn’t work for me at all, there is still a special place in my heart because it was one of the first-ever Korean cosmetic products I came in contact with.  This was back in the day when the internet wasn’t really a thing and online shopping did not exist.  My mother heard from one of her friends that this moisturizer was amazing and she got her friends to bring back 3 jars when they went to Asia.  Now little old me during high school, dabbling in my mom’s makeup bag secretly and craving to learn more about makeup and skincare, I slathered this on my face hoping my face wouldn’t be so dry.  Nothing… absolutely nothing.  My skin was still dry, flakey and tight.  With that memory and revisiting it just recently, it was still the same thing.  Now years later and two new versions being released not too long ago, I want to see if the cica and lavender versions are any different.

Laneige sleeping mask reviewProduct packaging:
I actually did not get the full-sized jars but a mini size that was a kit during the holidays of 2019.  They are still available on Jolse if you are interested as well as a lot of other online retailers.  I think this is a great way to test out the masks to see which one suits your skin type better.

Laneige sleeping mask review These are the same packaging but smaller, with the color-coded jars depending on which versions you get and a twist-off cap with a lid inside to keep everything more airtight.  These jars are plastic, so it is easy to travel around with them.

Laneige sleeping mask original lavender cica reviewTexture/ Finish:
As I suspected, the original and lavender both have the same texture.  They are both very lightweight gels that absorb into the skin very quickly and does not leave any greasy finish which is nice for people living in humid climates.  As for the cica version, it is more of a thicker cream but still somewhat lightweight and again, absorbs into the skin with no greasy finish.  I personally like the cica one much better for my dry skin and my skin feels more protected than the original and lavender.

Laneige water sleeping mask review swatches texture lavender cicaOriginal sleeping mask has their Sliptox technology which helps stabilize natural evening primrose and hunja apricot extract to purify and clear tired skin during the day. It has hydro-ion mineral water to help the ingredients absorb better into the skin during the night.

The lavender version has the same Sliptox technology and same evening primrose and hunja apricot extract as well as the mineral water. The only real difference is the lavender scent, which I’m kinda of meh about and also asking why is this necessary.

The cica version has their patent-pending Cica ingredient Forest yeast packed with soothing effects to strengthen skin barrier during the night .  It helps skin barrier strengthen during the night by moisturizing and protecting damaged skin from drying. It is also hypoallergenic 9 free formula (free from Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Toluene., Formaldehyde Resin., Camphor., Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP), Xylene, Paraben., Phthalate).

Effects/ Results:
I already anticipated for the original formula to not work for me.  It is way too light and does nothing for my dry skin. I want up to my skin feeling rough and dry, but usually not tight because I layer it with other serums and essence which is always my saving grace.  I did have hopes that maybe the lavender version was different, but I definitely was giving myself false hope.  The lavender one is exactly the same formula with a few ingredient differences and fragrance differences but that’s about it.

As for the cica sleeping mask that some of you guys recommended me to try, I definitely liked it way better than the other two but it really wasn’t stellar or memorable.  It was a good solid centella based moisturizer but that was about it.  There was nothing that stood out enough for me to say get this cream.  Heck, I even think I like the Purito recovery cream, another centella based moisturizer that is even more lightweight, to perform better than this one and it is cheaper!  I didn’t wake up to my skin feeling as dry but i didn’t really see much “soothing” action either, so it is also meh.

Fragrance?:
The original one has a very light soapy and citrus scent and it does fade after application.  Smell-o-scale: 4/10 in terms of how strong it is.

The lavender version has a very light lavender scent and I didn’t find it to irritate my skin either (thank god).  Smell-o-scale: 4/10 and it fades after application.

As for the cica one, it has a very light green smell to it but its definitely a Centella smell.  Smell-o-scale: 4/10 and fades after application.

Pro:
-absorbs into the skin quickly
-not heavy

Con:
-not moisturizing enough
-not really memorable

Overall thoughts:
Although these didn’t really work for me (and I’m definitely to surprised), I don’t think these are bad products.  Some of you guys love the cica one, others swear by the original. I personally have really dry skin and am picky, especially when products are overhyped.  I think the cica version is an upgrade to the other two but because the original and lavender version set the bar so low for me already, it is kind of easy for the cica one to shine through.  However, comparing the cica sleeping pack to a lot of other sleeping masks or moisturizers, I can’t justify the $32 price tag when I can find something that works way better for $20 or less.  Overall these are bad products and if you find a texture that works best for your skin type, go for it!  But for those with dry skin type, I’d check out their cream skin line.
