Javin de Seoul wink foundation & bloom foundation review

Back with another Javin de Seoul review!  This time, I’m testing out the two foundations that are available on Jolse.  I believe they have a third one now, but that was just recently released in Korea, so it will take a while before you see it in online shops. To my surprise, while I was scrolling through Glowpick’s year-end awards, both of these foundations were in the top 3 for the matte foundation and dewy foundation categories!  I definitely lucked out getting these to test out for you guys.  Let’s get into the review and see which version would be ideal for your skin type and needs.

Although this special set wasn’t available on Jolse, I thought I would show you guys just in case you wanted to get it on the Javin de Seoul website.  I would have loved the brush and the cushion case to make the foundation into a cute little cushion for the on-the-go!

Packaging:
I have to say, the frosted glass bottle really elevates the look of the brand.  Javin de Seoul does a very good job creating its packaging to look very cool, chic, and modern.  I love that the lid is magnetic as well!

And yes, it does come with a pump!  Thank goodness.  I will never understand brands who don’t give you a pump when you buy a foundation. How are you going to make sure you don’t spill everything?  I mean I even spilled my La roche posay hyaluronic acid serum all over the floor because it tipped over and there was no stopper to keep things from dripping. Just UGH!

Let’s try this on and talk through each aspect of the foundation.

Here is my bare skin. I of course my skincare on, but no primer or anything.  My skin at the moment is pretty irritated, dry, and more redness around the cheeks than normal.  My chin is also breaking out somewhat as well.

Texture/ Finish + Color/ Pigmentation:
Out of the 5 shades available for the Javin de Seoul wink foundation, I chose the #22 cover sand.  For BB cushions in general, I usually get shade #23 for the best match with my Mac NC25 yellow undertone skin type.  After researching the Korean blogs with their more realistic swatches, #22 cover sand seemed to be a better option.  It doesn’t have a strong yellow undertone but a more neutral, in-between undertone with a bit of pink and yellow.

To apply the foundation, I like to dab dots all over my face to ensure a bit more even application than if I were to just splatter it all over my face.  I also like to use a sponge of sorts to dab it out since I have dry skin and I find the dabbing motion helps prevent my skin from looking crusty.  I’ve tried using a brush before and my skin ends up feeling irritated, redder and the foundation catches onto the dry patches easily.

With one thin layer, it did quite a good job of covering the majority of my redness. There is still a little bit of redness peeking through, so let’s go over it with another layer.

This time, I’m going to use a spatula to apply the foundation more evenly and thinly.  This is a great technique I’ve adapted recently after seeing so many Korean makeup artists using this spatula.  And this spatula is trending on Tiktok too keke.

I have to say, this foundation has great pigmentation and adheres to the skin effortlessly. It doesn’t break down and separate like some I’ve tried in the past,  and it glides over my dry patches well but not perfectly.

Coverage:
With two layers, you get a pretty flawless finish but it still looks like skin.  The semi-matte finish from this foundation still has a healthy light glow to it which I enjoy.  The coverage is also buildable but it won’t get up to high coverage.

Here’s a close-up of my skin texture.  So far, not been bad.  I personally don’t like when foundations look cakey or too much in real life, so this is kind of perfect.  There still is a slight glow, however for my dry skin, it dries down really fast for me (on average 2-3 hours).

And here is what it looks like with a full face of the Javin de Seoul wink foundation.  Still looks very skin-like!

Lasting power:
I find the lasting power not as strong as the wink foundation pact for some odd reason.  I’m not sure if the formula is different or the same, but you definitely need to touch it up at some point in your day.  The tip of my nose rubbed off and the redness did start to peek out after the 4+ hour mark.

There also were no issues with applying the rest of my makeup. The foundation didn’t move around or bunch up!! Whoo whoo~

Overall thoughts:
I’m pretty happy with this foundation overall.  I personally avoid foundations since they always seem to be too heavy for my liking.  I did want to test this foundation out to compare it to their wink foundation pact to see if it is the same thing.  Yes, and no on that thought.  Yes in the sense that it gives a similar life-like skin texture look in real life, but no because I find the cushion to be more flawless in finish.  It is close 80% compared to the cushion but this is still a good foundation by itself.  Overall I give this a thumbs up and can see why it ranked #3 in the matte foundation category for Glowpick’s annual award listing.

Packaging:
Javin de Seoul bloom foundation bottle is the same shape as the wink foundation.  The only difference is the lid is beige and the bottle isn’t frosted.  The lid has the same magnet in it, which is a nice sleek touch.  I personally chose to get shade #21 just to get the bonus brush and sponge.  I didn’t think the sponge would be this small to be honest.  For this version of the Javin de Seoul foundation, they oddly only have three shades to choose from compared to the five-shade range for the wink foundation.

The brush has an interesting wave shape to it and is quite soft!  Like I mentioned before, I personally don’t use brushes to apply my foundation since I find my dry skin gets irritated and ends up looking dry and sad.  This brush would be a great contour brush though to sculpt the cheekbones and nose bridge! It also has a short handle, so it is the perfect on-the-go brush.

With this size of a sponge, this would be used solely for under-eye concealer haha. It would take foreverrrrr if you used this for your face.  I’m pretty sure they have a full-size of this sponge too.

Let’s try this on!

My skin is super irritated at this point.  It is so dry and cold where I am that my lip is actually swelling if you can see (bottom left of my lip).

Texture/ Finish + Color/ Pigmentation:
I find the Javin de Seoul bloom to have a much lighter texture compared to the wink foundation which has a solid medium coverage texture.  This version is supposed to be more moist and dewy, so I can see why the texture is much lighter and the coverage is lacking a bit. It definitely has a dewier look compared to the wink foundation, however, I don’t find it to be too drastic.

I also don’t think I chose the right shade for my skin tone. If you want your overall appearance to be brightened, #21 sheer ivory would be a good fit.  Worst case scenario, I might just mix the two versions and get the perfect shade.  Or I can strategically apply this bloom foundation on the areas I want to highlight for not only a natural brightening effect but also a stronger dewy finish on the select parts I want!

The before and after results are very apparent.  You can easily tell the separating line on my nose LOL.  The shade isn’t necessarily too light, it’s just slightly too light to the point of making my skin look a bit crusty dusty.

Coverage:
With one layer, this foundation gives good light coverage with the ability to be able to bring it to medium coverage that’s on the lighter side.  The finish is still very skin like and you can see my imperfections peaking out such as the redness and dark spots on the tops of my cheeks.

Lasting power:
The lasting power of this foundation is average.  I found it to start fading around the 6-hour mark.  Keep in mind, I personally don’t like to set my base makeup with powder since it naturally sets itself and I’m a crusty woman as is.  It starts to fade away on the tip of my nose and the center of my cheeks.

I mean, the Javin de Seoul bloom foundation would be a good candidate for the whole “clean girl” make up look.  I look pretty clean and fresh here, I’m not going to lie.

Close up shot looks pretty good as well! It does look a bit crusty around the nose area, but that might just be because it’s the wrong shade for me.

Overall thoughts:
This is a good alternative option if you don’t like a semi-matte finished foundation, however, I oddly prefer the wink foundation a little bit more.  The Javin de Seoul bloom foundation is a good dewy, fresh, everyday foundation if you just want something light while keeping your skin looking like skin.  I don’t think this review is a fair representation and might need to get shade #23 sheer beige to get a better feel.  Overall this isn’t a bad foundation, but its not my favorite (yet).

And here is a quick swatch of the two foundations.  You can clearly see the bloom foundation in #21 is way too light, even though it is the middle shade of the range they offer.  The color gives me a chalky look and dry patches are more exaggerated too.
