Foreo UFO 2 in-depth review / Skincare device that does it all!

We are back with another Foreo UFO 2 review whoo whoo!!  After my experience with Foreo’s hero product, their Luna 3 and Luna mini 3 as well as their latest BEAR microcurrent devices, I have been turned into a believer in Foreo as a brand.  Yes, I am well aware these devices don’t come cheap, but I really believe these devices are well worth the money and a great gadget to have for self-care at home.  The Foreo UFO 2 is not only a full spectrum LED power mask device, it is also a facial treatment that has a cryo and thermo function to help your skincare product absorb better into the skin as well as anti-aging with the cryo function.  This is truly a 4-in-1 device and truly a great bang for your buck! How to use Foreo UFO 2:

There are two ways you can use the UFO 2 but both methods will require you to download the Foreo app found in the app store on IOS and android.

1)Following the pre-set routines on the Foreo app.  Remove the plastic ring, place your desired masks from Foreo and massage your face and neck in circular motions.

2) Customize your own routine in the settings by changing the duration of time, LED light, and temperature settings (thermo or cryo therapy).

Here is the Foreo UFO 2 in all its glory.  I’ve actually gotten a lot of questions about what the differences are between UFO 2, UFO and UFO mini.  Here’s a little breakdown comparison between all the models.

What is the difference between UFO 2 and UFO mini series:

Foreo UFO 2 and UFO have the cryotherapy function while UFO mini does not.  I’m guessing it might have to do with the body size of the two different devices?

Both the UFO 2 and UFO mini 2 have the updated 8 colors LED light therapy full spectrum while the UFO and UFO mini only has three colors (red, green, blue).  All of them come in 3 color options and all have T-sonic power.

Only the UFO 2 and UFO are able to use all the masks offered from Foreo while the UFO mini is compatible with select masks. All Foreo’s devices are waterproof, so don’t be shy to rinse your devices under a running tap!

As for charging, the Foreo UFO 2 uses the same charging cable as the Luna, Issa, and any other devices under the Foreo family.  I have heard a lot of you guys losing your cable because you don’t have to charge it so often, and I got to agree.  The same thing is happening to me too HAHA.

One charge lasts me about 2-3 weeks if I were to use it on a daily basis.  If I use it only 3-4 times a week, I can get away with not charging it for up to a month.  I personally like to lengthen my sessions from 60 seconds to 120 seconds or even 180 seconds.  I want to relax as long as I can!!

The one thing I always got confused with was the little ring that came with the UFO 2.  Before I got it, I was wondering how the device would work if there was a plastic cap that went over the metal plate.  After getting the device and seeing it up close and personal, it all makes sense now haha.

The plastic ring is just a ring and not a cover!  It helps secure the little sheet masks you use for the treatments.  Silly silly me…
So how long does the UFO 2 take to achieve glowing skin?  They recommend you to use the 60 second treatment either day or night to calm your skin with the cryo therapy and thermal therapy to help your skincare absorb better into your skin.

To use the device, you will have to download the app from the app store.  If you have customized a routine to your liking, you can turn on the device and it would automatically go to the settings you’ve created.  Or you can open the app, choose one of the treatments and just follow along.

Here are the settings for a customized routine.  You can adjust the duration of your routine, which LED color you’d like to use, temperature (thermo or cryo therapy) and pulsation levels.  I’m really happy with the new update since the old one only allowed you to do a 60-second routine which is not enough for me!

Another update in the app is the whole interface.  Also, you don’t have to scan the masks anymore but just pick which mask/ routine you want to use and follow along.  Thank goodness!  It was quite annoying to have to scan the barcodes each time I needed to use a mask.

What are the benefits of LED light therapy?

There have actually been numerous studies testing the effectiveness of using LED light therapy to treat certain skin concerns.  Red light therapy has shown to improve skin roughness, wrinkles, skin complexion, and a slight improvement in collagen intensity.  I personally am still slightly skeptical about the whole light therapy concept, but it might also be because I haven’t used it religiously enough to see a huge difference.

The times I do use it would be when I do a treatment routine with the UFO 2.  Otherwise, I’d be using the cryo and thermal function the most since it is my go to thing to do when I’m trying to get rid of a headache or my eyes are feeling a bit swollen from crying my eyes out, watching K-drama.

Foreo UFO 2’s LED light therapy treatments target 8 different concerns with its full spectrum LED lights of 8 lights.

–Red LED: stimulate collagen production and elastin, diminishes fine lines, wrinkles, signs of aging
–Blue LED: minimize imperfections, destroys P. acne bacteria to stop breakouts, stabilizes overactive oil production, mitigates inflamed acne

–Yellow LED: soothes sunburns, soften rosacea, combats swelling, and improves overall skin tone
–Cyan LED: anti-inflammatory, calms stressed-out skin, promotes healing, reduce the size of swollen capillaries and block pain

Do I have to use the Foreo masks with the UFO 2?  Can I use my own skincare products?

A lot of people have actually asked me this question on multiple occasions and my answer is, YES!  You can use your own products alongside the UFO 2.  The difference between using the designated masks and not using the designated mask is just the settings for each of the masks.  The treatment routines built into the app are designed to optimize the skin benefits of the ingredients by pairing them with certain LED lights and temperatures.

Can I use the Foreo UFO without a mask?

Yes, you most definitely can! Most of the time when I’m lazy, I would run the UFO 2 over my face with freshly applied skincare.  Or if I’m feeling a little extra but still not extra enough to whip out one of their single-use masks, I would add double the amount of face cream and just do a routine that way.  The Foreo UFO 2 is so versatile, most of the time I’m just using the cryo therapy function to put into my eye socket when my eyes are feeling extra tired from looking at the computer screen for too long.

And if you can only afford just the device but not the masks, that is okay too!  You can easily use your own thin cotton pads, soak them with your favorite essence/ serum/ ampoule and use it that way too! You just got to make sure the cotton pad is thin enough for the ring to push down into place.

Another method I like is using presoaked pads like Purito’s centella green level all in one pad or my holy grail, Cosrx moisture up pads!  The size of each cotton pad is pretty standard in Korea and is sturdy enough to withstand the consistent massaging against your skin. The only downside is that there isn’t as much essence soaked into each pad.  You can easily add more of your favorite serum/ essence or ampoule to massage into the skin.  The size fits just right and is a little thicker than the original little masks but will still work very well.Lastly, you can simply just run the device over your face mask.  Yes, the full-face ones that you most likely already have!  My go-to all-time favorite sheet masks Lululun blue high moisturizing face masks which come in a bulk pack of 32 masks.  Not only is it cheaper per sheet mask, but there is also a whole lot less waste, which is one thing that stops me from wanting to use sheet masks in the first place.  All that foil packaging for what!

Okay, I’m a visual learner so here are some images for you to follow along to :).

First, turn on your device and make sure your phone’s BlueTooth is also turned on.  Open your app and connect the device by just holding it close and it should detect it.  Choose your treatment, apply your mask onto the UFO 2 and press start.

Now just relax, lay back, and gently massage in circular motions all over your face and neck.

Yea, I make that face all the time.  Seriously, the UFO makes me feel so relaxed.  Don’t forget the neck!  I’ve noticed my deep neck wrinkles that, unfortunately, will never go away.  The only thing I can do now is just moisturized and try not to look down so often when using my digital devices.

How do you turn off your Foreo UFO 2?  Hold onto the power button and you will see the LED light rin turn off.  To check how much battery you have left, you can just look at the battery status in the app and it will show you its status.

Is the Foreo UFO worth it?

In my humble opinion, yes it is!  Considering a LED face mask itself with just the light therapy function would run you $200 or more, this device not only has 8 different LED light settings, there is also thermal and cryotherapy as well as their T-pulsation to help push in your skin deeper as well.  With all these functions, the device could have easily been priced much higher.  Yes, the device costs a pretty penny at first, but with all the functions and its amazing battery life, this baby would be much cheaper than getting one dedicated function device or even a trip to the spa!  Why not have spa night every night in the comfort of your own home.

Repurchase?:
If it ever breaks down, yes I would repurchase it in a heartbeat!

Overall thoughts:
I’m truly a huge fan of Foreo as a brand.  I’ve gotten the chance to try the iconic Foreo Luna line, which got me back into using cleansing devices.  Then there is the Foreo BEAR which has saved my boyfriend’s face from sagging and my face from looking like an old hag and keeping everything nice and tight.  Which devices would I recommend you get?  Honestly, I can’t live without any of the three I’ve tried.  They all do such different things, it really comes down to what your needs are.  If you are more into maintaining your skin texture and blackheads, get the Foreo Luna.  If you want to keep your skin looking youthful and tight, the Foreo BEAR microcurrent would be for you.  The Foreo UFO 2 is so versatile, I always find different ways to use it but my most favorite function has to be cryotherapy for sure.  I will continue testing out the different LED light functions and do an update in the future if I feel like there was some sort of skin improvement down the road.
