Covergirl oh sugar! lip balm review & swatches

IMG_9700Covergirl recently came out with these really interesting products that seems to be a dupe of Fresh sugar lip treatments which I do like but rarely repurchase because it is so pricey! ย I actually didn’t even know what these were nor did I see any promo or blog reviews, I just picked these up on a whimp thinking I would pick a couple of these to review for you guys. ย These retail for $7.99 compared to Fresh’s which retails for $22.50. ย Now I was never a Covergirl fan and always thought that their products were kind of cheap and not worth my time. ย These are actually the first products I have ever purchased from Covergirl, so let’s hope these are decent. ย Let’s see if these are really dupes to Fresh’s shall we? ย Lets go~

Product packaging:IMG_9855The packaging of these lip balms are very similar to their Coloricious lipsticks which have the same clear twist up base and a slightly metallic lid. ย The inside is completely white and the metallic lids correspond to the shade inside the tube. ย I didn’t have any testers available when I went to get these, so I had to base it off of the lid which surprisingly was quite accurate. ย The tube itself is made of a cheap plastic and you can tell it isn’t high quality, but it works with it’s only function which is to twist up the lip balm and keep it dirty free so I give it a pass on that.

IMG_9704On the bottom of the tube has a nice label with the corresponding shade and is clearly labeled with the shade number and the shade name. ย I really appreciate the attention to small details like this because if I want to store this upside down with the label facing up, I can still easily tell what shade it is without having to waste time and fiddle around when I’m rushing out the door.

How to use:
Apply this onto your lips either by itself or to moisturize your lips before applying your lipstick or lip color. ย These can be wear either way and with the darker shades, you can even use it as a flush of color on the lips to replace lipsticks for a more natural look.

Color/ Pigmentation:
I was not expecting much from these products since I have my bias opinion of Covergirl as a brand. ย I haven’t had much luck with their brand and I really don’t like the famous lash blast mascara which just gives me super clumped up look. ย These lip balms are actually decent and I would keep these in my collection to use as a lip balm. ย If you have pigmented lips like me, I’d suggest you stick to the dark shades since those actually do give you a tint on your lips and you can pass them off as lip tints or a replacement for lipstick.

Soda- Bright cherry shade
Caramel- Light caramelย brown shade
Cupcake- Baby pink shade

IMG_9839Let’s try these on~

IMG_9837Here’s my natural lips with no product on. ย I have quite dry, chapped lips so I am a lip balm hoarder. ย If you want to see other lip balms I use/ have in my collection, click here for my lip balm overview if you would like suggestions on which lip balms to get for yourself.

IMG_9858First up cupcake.

In few cases men do not follow the directions on the discount cialis india label or those from your doctor. The sildenafil citrate mixes with your blood vessels Have taken another type of medication for erectile dysfunction is better than prescription djpaulkom.tv tadalafil in india drugs and has no side effects. It has not been levitra order prescription considered with unique pharmaceuticals for weakness, so use in blend with differing arrangements is not proposed. There is djpaulkom.tv cialis uk not much information on the product and how it is achieved.

IMG_9842Naturally, cupcake doesn’t really show up on my lips since I do have quite pigmented lips. ย It does slightly lighten my lips and leave a baby pink tint but it enough for me to want to buy it again.ย

IMG_9845Caramel on my lips, again, kind of look clear on my lips.ย

IMG_9860

IMG_9848Soda is one I would repurchase in the future since it actually does something to my lips. ย As you can see, it gives me the nicest, most natural flush to my lips like I sucked on a cherry popsicle

IMG_9861

IMG_9852Gumdrop is also another shade I would consider repurchasing in the future if I was in the market to get a affordable, tinted lip balm. ย This shade gives me a slight berry tint which also looks natural. ย I actually gravitate this shade more then soda since I am not experimental with my lip colors and this shade is a little bit more muted which is my style.

Texture/ Finish:
These lip balms glide easily on my lips and melts right in. ย Once applied to the lips, it gives my lips this juicy flushed look and does not cling onto any dry patches!

Coverage:
Depending on what shade you got, the color coverage varies. ย I’d honestly choose the darker shades since it is more worthwhile to do so, unless you just want a clear lip balm, then by all means get the lighter shades. ย However if you just want a clear lip balm, I’d suggest you check out A’pieu’s Honey and milk lip sleeping pack which retails for $5 and has a better moisturizing effect for the lips in the long run.

Lasting power:
These last about 1-1.5 hours on my lips and leaves my lips slightly moisturized.

Fragrance?:
Mimicking the Fresh sugar lip treatment’s, Covergirl’s version smells pretty much the same with the sugary lemon scent. ย Smell-o-scale=7-10.

Is it a 100% dupe?:
Do I think these are 100% dupes to Fresh’s more expensive version? ย No I don’t think it is a complete dupe but it is a close second. ย I’d say it is about 80% there. ย Covergirl offers a nice range of shades and a more affordable price. ย Texture compared to Fresh’s is a little less creamy and the tint left on the lips is about 70% there. ย Fresh’s is a lot more pigmented, a bit more creamy and stays on my lips for at least 2-3 hours. ย One thing I don’t like about Fresh’s is that it sometimes clings onto my dry patches which Covergirl does not do. ย Overall Covergirl’s is a close second and not a bad purchase fro fraction of the price.

Pro:
-nice variety of shades
-moisturizing
-nice formula, creamy texture

Con:
-could be a little more moisturizing
-needs a better lasting power

Repurchase?:
Maybe.

Overall thoughts:
I think these Covergirl version of the lip treatment is a good purchase if you are on a budget and are looking for a decent tinted lip balm. ย Out of all the lip balms I have tried in the drugstore, I think these are the best lip balms I have tried so far. ย I don’t think these are exact dupes of Fresh’s sugar lip treatment but these aren’t bad either. ย They offer a nice color range and would work with all skin tones. ย I do wish that these would have a better lasting power and moisturizing level could be improved, however overall these are pretty good products. ย I recommend these for those who are on a budget and want a slight upgrade to their boring lip balms.

What do you guys think about these lip balms? ย Have you tried these yourself yet and what are your thoughts? ย Which shades are you eyeing and which shade is your favourite out of the ones I swatched? ย Let me know in the comments down below.
