Slowly but surely, I’m chipping away the BB cushions I have collected over the years. One of them which I have been meaning to try is Amorepacific’s age correcting foundation cushion. Amorepacific I have tried very little of, other then their eye cream (which is hella bomb by the way!), so I’m really excited to test these out. I was a bit weary going into this review because when I first got it, the color was two to three shades too dark. Now that I’m slightly tanner, I finally got the chance to try it out for real. Let’s get into the review :D. I really hate doing intros…
Amorepacific brand story:
“Five centuries ago, on the magnificent Pacific Island known as Island of the Gods, a raging volcano left in its wake the most nutrient-rich soil imaginable. Believed to be a gift of the Goddess Yul-ryeo, from this fertile, fruitful soil was grown the most desirable green tea in all of Asia. Tales of its potency were legendary: emissaries traveled for days to reserve and conserve harvests; Asian princesses rubbed the leaf’s powerful essence on their face to maintain their youth.
Six decades ago one man, Suh Sung-whan, had the foresight and perseverance to study the remarkable benefits of these life-giving plants. He pledged to share the amazing antioxidant benefits of these indigenous Korean botanicals with the world.
From South Korea’s Jeju Island, he began what today is his bespoke company’s journey to unearth and evolve this unique, revolutionary science. From this proud heritage, AMOREPACIFIC conceives and achieves strikingly efficacious skincare.
Only AMOREPACIFIC lovingly harvests and handpicks its own green tea leaves, the source of one of the world’s most potent anti-oxidant, polyphenol EGCG. These blended Asian botanicals are fused with a patented formula decades in the making. Only this AMOREPACIFIC formula is engineered without potency-diluting water to help stabilize, realize, and maximize youth preserving benefits. AMOREPACIFIC; The ultimate indulgence for achieving authentically beautiful skin.
AMOREPACIFIC’s sacred and protected gardens are located at the foot of Halla Mountain on the Pacific Isle of Jeju, off the coast of Korea. These gardens are nourished by the world’s purest spring water and mineral-rich volcanic soil, which are the ideal conditions to produce green tea. Here, vital parts of the green tea plant are meticulously grown and handpicked at the peak of their optimal potency, at specific times of the month, day and year, to ensure superior efficacy for its use in skincare.”

How to use:
Simply take the air puff that comes with the cushion, stamp it into the cushion to get some of the product and then stamp it onto your skin. This will replace your foundation, unless you still feel the need to use it but I really don’t think you’d need it.
When you first get your cushion, it comes in this really fancy golden box that just screams luxury. Opening up the box, you’ll find the cushion itself housed in securely and underneath is the refill itself. Keke I kind of want to reuse the box to put sweets in it or something :P.
The cushion compact itself is pretty much the standard, traditional compact you’d get like the ones from Iope (the first edition compacts, not the slimmer ones that they have now) or Hera. The compact honestly isn’t anything special other then it being gold. The mirror inside is a real mirror though, none of that plastic stuff.
The air puff is the thicker, brown ones that is suppose to give you a better coverage. The downside to that is that it soaks up more of the moisture, so if you are like me with dry skin and like a dewy finish, this might work against you since it would give you a satin to matte finish.
The problem I am having with the BB cushions available here in North America is the shades that they offer. I’m not too sure if the shades offered here in North America are the same as the ones offered in Korea, but somehow they are always too yellow or too pink. There isn’t really an in-between for some reason. I personally had to gamble and choose 204 light/medium (yellow) since in the picture with all the shades, they showed an Asian women and plus, it says it has a yellow undertone so I thought it would work.
Not sure if you guys can see but if you look closely to the blended side, it clearly is a little too yellow and also slightly too dark. Not much I can do about this since the Sulwhasoo intense cushion also has the same problem. Shame because I really LOVE that cushion but I have to wear it with caution.
When you first apply it, it seems like it is a slightly less moist dewy finish (if that makes sense). After about 5 minutes, it settles down to more of a satin finish. From a distance, there is a slight healthy glow and up close, it is a definite satin finish that is borderline drying for my skin type. It doesn’t really cling onto my dry skin which is a good thing but throughout the day, it gets drier and drier for me. So if you want to get this cushion to work, you’d have to moisturize and prep your skin really really well.
Coverage for this cushion is pretty awesome. Right from the get go, I get a medium coverage with just a thin layer. If you want a medium to high coverage, two layers would give you just that.
Lasting power for this cushion is also impressive. For me with my dry skin, this lasted about 6-8 hours or even more with slight fading around my nose and slightly around the cheeks. I could go for a longer period of time, but it was getting a little too drying feeling, at least for me.
There is a very apparent floral, slightly soapy scent but it does fade after application. Smell-o-scale: 7.5/10 in terms of how strong the scent is.
Okay, let’s start with the demo. My skin is definitely tired, so is my mind and soul lately. The redness around my cheeks have been spreading, I’ve been getting little bumps here and there. My skin is still dry but it isn’t as dry as during the winter time since it is summer at the moment.
-shades are a little off and hard to match
-wish it was slightly more hydrating
If there is a shade that actually suits me, maybe.
Stars given out of 5:
I’m actually quite impressed with this cushion even though the shade doesn’t really work for me and the finish is slightly drying for my liking. The coverage is quite good, buildable and formula adheres to the skin very well. Although this cushion does offer shades for a slightly wider range of skintones, I don’t think there is enough if you really want to elaborate on pink undertones, olive, neutral and yellow. One shade for each category really doesn’t work. So if you can find a good color match, I’d really recommend this cushion. Two thumbs up and I give you the okay to maybe splurge a little if this suits your fancy. It really isn’t that expensive if you think about it since there is a refill. A lot of high end western cushions sell for $70-90 with no refill, so this one really isn’t that bad price wise.
